Love to Texas, Late Summer in New England, Road-bound in 2018

Sound check at recent Veterans Appreciation Concert - Cornish, NH

Hello Friends,

On Friday evening, April 30th, 2010, I was driving from Murfreesboro to Franklin, TN for a guitar show. Half-way there, I had to stop and turn around; it was raining so hard, water was pooling on the highway. It happened fast. I plowed my way home through sheets of rain and standing water and didn't leave again for days. It was the start of "1000-year" flooding in the Nashville area.  It was a historic two-day rain event, bringing nearly 20 inches of rain, affecting 30 Middle Tennessee counties.

My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Texas. The numbers are daunting, the damage hard to conceive and the stories just beginning. I wrote a song about the Nashville flood the weekend it was happening as Tennesseans came together to help each other like I've seen Texans doing.  "The waters may rise, but their spirits won't wash away."  -  There are many ways to show support. Here's a quick link to the American Red Cross' Hurricane Harvey Disaster Relief & Donations page: American Red Cross

On Friday and Saturday, September 8th and 9th, the Band will be performing aboard the Bay Mist as we celebrate the end of summer with two music-party cruises around Casco Bay off Portland, Maine. Hope you can join us!

Friday, September 8th is a very special cruise event. Please note special time: 6-9 pm!

United Farmer Veterans of Maine is a grass-roots organization working to make a difference for at-risk veterans. Comprising a network of 250 veteran-owned farms, UFVM works to give veterans a home and valuable skills in agriculture that can lead to a career, helping them, at the same time, contribute to one of Maine’s quickest-growing small business areas - farming.

UFVM’s “22 2X4 Cottage Project” is raising money from small donations to build 300 cottages on farms in Maine. Each cottage, constructed entirely with volunteer labor, can be built for $5,000 of materials, and will provide a home to a veteran in need.

The cottage program provides more than an alternative to shelters for homeless vets — it offers room to heal. “A lot of veterans, especially if they’re homeless, have never had a place to call their own,” says Jerry Ireland, farmer, Army veteran, and CEO/President of UFVM. “And if they’re going through struggles related to their experiences in the service, having your own space and time to work through it can make a huge difference."

Tickets for the cruise are $25 and every dollar goes to UFVM.  I'm very proud to be working with the Cape Elizabeth Class of ‘87 on this great event to raise money for United Farmer Veterans of Maine. It's a 21+ cruise with cash bar. Anyone can buy tickets, so please let friends and family know! Tickets for this cruise are only available through this ticket link: BENEFIT CRUISE  You can also access the link from the Don Campbell Band website's schedule page.

Saturday, September 9th will be a traditional party-music cruise, from 7-10 pm with tickets sold at Casco Bay Lines ticket counter or at www.cascobaylines.com ($17 adv/$20 day of cruise). Also a great night of music, views, dancing, cash bar.
