Lyrics

Sagan's Lament

Pieces of clay and visions of light
Racing around the sun
Knowing the earth and her place in the night
A prodigy under the gun
Slaying the dragons of Eden
With one swift strike from a powerful sword
With blinding intelligence, vision became our reward.

The simple equation…the question of life
Tell me is there a man in the moon
Billions of stars further billions of lives that light up the eyes of a youth
Knowing the meaning and wondering why
Keeping the harmony in tune
Knew you were leaving but we never knew this soon

Well we called up the neighbors but they can’t seem to find their way to the phone
Well maybe they’re off on vacation and we’ll never know
Well we weren’t going to ask any favors we wanted to give them a friendly hello
It’s hard to believe we’re part of the scenery alone…alone!

Did you enter the darkness..did you see the light
Did you stop by the Milky Way
Did you finally learn that your answers were right?
Did you throw your equations away
The son of the sun and the moon and the stars
They’ve taken you light years away
But I feel the warmth of your memory with us today

Well we called up the neighbors but they can’t seem to find their way to the phone
Well maybe they’re off on vacation and we’ll never know
Well we weren’t going to ask any favors we wanted to give them a friendly hello
It’s hard to believe we’re part of the scenery alone…alone!

Pieces of clay and visions of light
Racing around the sun
Knowing the earth and her place in the night
The wonderful work that you’ve done.
